Awards and Success continues for Newcastle University Students’ Union

Educate North Awards 2019

For a second year, Newcastle University Students’ Union (NUSU) were the proud receivers of the ‘Students’ Union of the Year’ title by the Educate North Awards, succeeding over other shortlisted nominees such as Leeds Trinity Students’ Union (LTSU) and Northumbria Students’ Union (NSU).

Raff Marioni, NUSU President, who received the award on behalf of the Union, said "we’ve had a huge year at NUSU, and it’s so rewarding to have our successes acknowledged by winning this award for a second year running. We’ve empowered and energised students to be the best they can be, and have really fought for the change that students want to see on campus. This award is a testament to the hard work of everyone working at, and with, our Students’ Union this year”.

This award, sponsored by Heart Radio, celebrates the outstanding achievements and performance of a Students’ Union as part of higher education institution. This year, NUSU has been dedicated to providing the best student experience possible through representation and academic support, provision of social and sporting opportunities and graduate skills development.

Notable achievements for NUSU this year have been being ranked joint 7th in the Times Higher Education Survey 2018, its continued social impact of student volunteers on the local community and the work N.E.S.T, and its continued lobbying of the University on matters that are important to students.

This is not for the second time however, with NUSU being awarded top spot for the same award in 2016 in recognition for the commitment to widening access to our opportunities for all students, regardless of their social background.

NUSU President, Raff, went on to say that “despite this success we won’t rest on our laurels, as there’s always more to do to impact students’ lives - we’ve set our sights on three in a row!”

Newcastle University also went on to be awarded University of the Year 2019 at the Awards night.
