We’ve been more than a little bit excited here at the Students’ Union this week as we've welcomed some very special guests through our doors.
Radio royalty Lauren Laverne presented her Radio 6 show live from Mens Bar on Tuesday accompanied by Geordie favourites Maximo Park, all to launch the 6 Music Festival in Tyneside in February.
The show had been kept tightly under wraps, with only a select crowd of students invited to attend.
Director of Commercial Graham Hattam said: “It is fantastic that Radio 6 chose the Students’ Union to announce the Festival. I think it’s a reflection of how Newcastle is full of both students and locals who are passionate about good music”.
Our special guests already had a connection to the Students’ Union, as Lauren Laverne had performed at the SU with her band Kenickie and Maximo Park are former Newcastle University students.
The 6 Music Festival 2015 will be held between both Newcastle and Gateshead, with a weekend filled with live music at the O2 Academy and the Sage Gateshead.
Acts include Maximo Park, The Charlatans and Interpol with over 50 acts attending overall.
Graham continued: “We’ve really enjoyed being part of such a unique event for Radio 6. I’m really glad that Newcastle has been recognised for its love of music and that the Students’ Union was chosen to host such a big announcement”.
