With all the hard work staff do around the NUSU building, we thought it was time you got to know them better. We sat down with Natalie to talk about everything...from Bridezillas to why Greggs is the best thing in Newcastle!

Okay, so how long have you worked with NUSU Natalie?

I’ve worked here for three and a half years now.

You’ve earned your stripes then?

Yeah, I’m ready to retire now – I’m old!

Aw don’t say that! What’s the best thing about working at NUSU anyway?

It sounds proper cheesy but I love the students.

In my last job, I was working with brides and it’s fair to say that students are nowhere near as demanding.

I love meeting new people and so the job is perfect for me. You see students who are fresh-faced, new to university in general and you can watch them make friends in front of our very eyes.

Give It A Go is a great opportunity to find friends and have fun.

Have any relationships started up because of Give It A Go? You could bring your old experience into play, working with the Bridezillas…

Yeah, I’m just waiting for the Give It A Go Wedding now!

Changing the subject slightly, but maybe not so much, do you have any funny stories from your time at NUSU?

Well you do get some funny emails. I remember organising a horse riding session and just before it was due to start I received an email from one of the attendants saying they couldn’t make it because they’d forgot their horse.

If you could have one other job for a day, what would it be?

I’d be a radio or TV presenter. I like to think I can chat to anyone as long as it’s not too early on a morning and I’ve had time to paint my face and do my hair.

You’ll be avoiding Breakfast TV then?

Maybe not breakfast TV unless they provide plenty of coffee. I need several coffees before it’s even worth speaking to me on a morning.

I’ll keep that in mind! What’s your favourite thing about Newcastle?

Greggs.

That’s a pretty firm answer.

Yeah, I love Greggs. I’m on first name terms with all the staff at the Northumberland Street branches. They follow me on Twitter now.

Woah, you’re clearly a big deal then?

Yeah, well I got seven Greggs gift cards for my last birthday so I’m basically funding the whole thing at this stage.

Well on that note, I think we’ve got all we need today Natalie! Thanks for being so candid about the Greggs habit!

Any time!
