Welcome to Luther's

Calling all Freshers’ and returning veterans. Students will be thrilled to hear that the Students’ Union Bar has been revamped and rebranded just in time for the new academic year!

After a series of discussions with students, a vote was eventually taken in 2017 that resulted in the change of name from Mensbar to the more modern and inclusive Luther’s.

While the name Mensbar was originally thought to be a homage to the University motto – Mens Agitat Molem, which means ‘the mind moves the matter’ – further research revealed the name was in fact bestowed upon the bar in the early 60s due to it being a men’s only space.

The new name has a more global feel and commemorates the late, great Dr Martin Luther King Jr., who visited the University in 1966 - we hope you like it as much as we do!

With the updated name comes an edgy, fresher look for the bar, with a modern facelift giving off a modern, polished vibe for the 17/18 academic year.

But what else is there to take in other than the name? Well, the new Baby Mac kitchen will serve an updated menu of delicious foods at low, low prices. An array of events is also lined up for the new year, with more information to follow - but expect the usual gig nights, open mics and unique one-offs.

However, as exciting as all this change is, sometimes tradition works best. For that reason, Luther’s will remain the first port of call for a pre-seminar coffee on a morning, at our much-loved Starbucks. We still have all the sport you can handle on the big screens and will be accommodating clubs and societies for pre-social drinks on weekdays. Meanwhile on Friday and Saturday you’ll no doubt be attending Unicorn Fridays and Wanderlust – our legendary club nights! What’s not to love?!

Remember to pay us a visit early in the new term for a Frappuccino, a student-brewed ale with Stu Brew or just a good old chin-wag. Opening hours are below and more information on our upcoming events and offers can be found at: https://www.nusu.co.uk/social/luthers/

Monday-Friday: 8am-11pm

Saturday: 10am-Midnight

Sunday: Midday-3pm
