Beauty of Rwanda is a UK not-for-profit organisation founded on the principle of economic empowerment to women and girls in Rwanda. Beauty of Rwanda values women empowerment and gender equality, thus focusing on the empowerment of rural and urban women and girls through the sale of their handwoven products. The organisation aims to evolve alternative strategies of education that will enable this disadvantaged group to participate as equal citizens in the political, economic and social sustainable development of themselves, their families and their communities.
In 1994, close to 1 million people were slaughtered in less than 100 days during the horrifying Rwandan genocide. The country was devastated in all aspects of life; many children were left orphaned, wives without husbands, families without sons and daughters and those that survived were raped and infected with HIV and then left to pick up pieces in their once happy country. The social and economic effects of the genocide rippled through the nation and still has an impact in the present day. Households affected by HIV/AID risk falling into poverty and thousands of rural and urban dwellers live in conditions of extreme poverty. With your help, we aim to empower this group of girls and women we support and eventually alleviating the poverty they face. Our vision through the #OneBasket campaign is for the organisation to continue making a real difference in the lives of the women and girls.
