Do you see life through a lens? Are you passionate about finding the perfect image? We’re looking for budding volunteer photographers or videographers to help capture and celebrate Newcastle’s parks and green spaces.

Newcastle City Council is setting up a new, independent charity to care for Newcastle’s parks and green spaces, and the National Trust is working with the Council to help get the new charity off to the best start possible.

We want to create an image bank for the new charity showing all of the amazing green spaces Newcastle has to offer, and capturing how parks are now so we can compare how they’ve changed in future – and that’s where you come in.

We’re offering a 2-3 photographers or videographers the unique opportunity to explore and capture all of Newcastle’s parks and green spaces and the people who care for and use them.

Depending on your preference, this might be a case of:

o             Snapping Newcastle’s parks and green spaces at their best

o             Taking representative photos of parks as they currently stand

o             Shooting activities and events in parks including community groups, staff and volunteers

o             Capturing vox pops / talking heads

What’s involved?

o             With the support of a National Trust mentor, you’ll work to a brief and deliver images in the format we use, and send them in to be archived for use

o             You’ll get to know National Trust guidelines and fill in paperwork as needed

o             You are important in making sure things run as smoothly and safely as possible – this includes getting to know health and safety and evacuation procedures

o             There might be other activities you want to help out with

By getting involved, you could

o             Use your creativity and skills to produce amazing images

o             See your images used on promotional materials or website and showcase your skills

o             Try out some new techniques and get feedback on your work

o             Join an enthusiastic and varied team and making new friends

This role will suit you if you are...

o             Passionate about parks and keen to support our work

o             A keen and experienced photographer – you needn’t be David Bailey, but you should be at home with a camera and have a good eye for that shot!

o             Able to follow a brief and enjoy working with other people

o             Available for projects once a month or more if you like. Some events may be held at weekends

Extra information

o             We’ll help you get to know the Newcastle Parks, how you can help and how you will work with the rest of the team – with induction and training/mentoring

o             We provide equipment to help you do this role well and safely

o             We’ll also cover agreed costs of your travel between home and the parks

How to apply

Whether you’re a landscape photographer, people photographer, or amateur filmmaker, we want to hear from you!

To apply, please send a short paragraph (200 words max) explaining why you want to get involved, together with a 3-4 examples of your work (photography or video) to volunteercoordinator.union@newcastle.ac.uk by 9:00am on Friday 1st June 2018.
