Gateshead Older People’s Assembly are based within Deckham Community Centre and are established to support people over 50+ living in Gateshead.

There are some new volunteer roles which have been created within the community group.  These include:

  • Gateshead Older People’s Assembly – Tea Dance leader

Volunteers are required to help set up the hall and audio equipment ready for the tea dance events.  (full training will be provided on how to do this).  Volunteers will also need to register the participants of the tea dance and collecting their small payment contribution. Volunteers will also be responsible for selecting and playing music and announcing the dances.  Volunteers may also need to encourage participation from attendees and motivating them to try and mingle.

  • Gateshead Older People’s Assembly – Tea Dance Café Assistant

Volunteers within this role will be asked to prepare sandwiches, scones and cakes ready for the attendees.  Volunteers will also be responsible for the serving of tea & coffee.  There will also be the need for a general tidy up of the café before and after the tea dance itself.

  • Gateshead Older People’s Assembly – Social Group Leader

Volunteers are needed to lead and organise activities for a social group which will need to be open to Gateshead residents aged 50+.  The volunteers would need to set up the venue and refreshments, collect subscriptions (all where appropriate) and generally promote and publicity the group itself.

  • Gateshead Older People’s Assembly – Community Café Cook & Assistant.

Volunteer cooks are needed to prepare meals, usually soups, casseroles, salads and sandwiches to service to approximately 30 people.   The assistants will also be serving the food along with hot drinks etc.  and will be responsible for cleaning the café area before and after meals.

All of these volunteer roles will be based within Deckham Community Centre.   These roles provide a great opportunity to get involved with a fantastic group who have a range of really positive and well established projects.
