Hedgehog Awareness Week Bake Sale

Hedgehog Awareness Week runs from 1st – 7th May this year and is organised annually by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS). It aims to highlight the problems hedgehogs face and how you can help them. This year is also the 40th Birthday of the BHPS and we want to celebrate by baking cakes and raising funds for the BHPS!

SNES and the Sustainability Team have teamed up to organise a hedgehog-themed bake sale on 4th May, 10:00-12:00 in the Ground Floor Common Room of the Agriculture Building. All colleagues and students are invited to bake and/or come and eat cakes to help raise funds for the BHPS. We are aiming to raise £100 towards the BHPS’s target of raising £2000 during Hedgehog Awareness Week 2022, and there will be prizes for the best hedgehog-themed cake!

Newcastle University recently achieved the Silver Hedgehog Friendly Campus Award and we are aiming for Gold this year by carrying out hedgehog surveys, raising funds and completing other activities set out by the Hedgehog Friendly Campus framework to improve the campus for hedgehogs and other wildlife.

If you’re keen to find out more about Hedgehog Friendly Campus and would like to take part in the campus surveys, please come along to the bake sale or email the Sustainability Team at sustainable-campus@newcastle.ac.uk.
