Newcastle University Students’ Union’s (NUSU) Go Volunteer and Activities departments are collaborating to offer 4 Inclusive Voices - Activities Intern posts. They will develop and devise a comprehensive guidance document advising better Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policy and practice within NUSU Societies. The aim of this role will be to further develop our existing commitment to EDI within societies and ensure we equip all our staff and students with the knowledge to sustain and enjoy a fully inclusive student environment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. To produce a high quality and comprehensive guidance document outlining how NUSU societies can better approach and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in their day-to-day activities.
  2. Work collaboratively and proactively with your team and colleagues in NUSU, Newcastle University and students to feed into the Inclusive Activities Guidance Document.
  3. To establish a close working relationship with student societies so as to gain insight regarding any issues faced by them around Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI).
  4. Consult with students sitting on the committee of their societies and develop ways to better support students on the equality issues they identify as problematic.
  5. Producing promotional and other materials to support student engagement on EDI.
  6. Based on resultant guidance document, develop and facilitate themed EDI training both students and student-facing staff across the University
  7. To ensure all administrative records are kept up to date, utilising IT, and timely records are produced as required to ensure an efficient, accountable service.

Be enrolled as a Newcastle University student for the year 19/20 or after

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Knowledge and understanding of student issues regarding Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) within Higher Education

An awareness and experience of engagement with NUSU societies

E

An awareness and demonstrative passion of cultural sensitivity with a commitment to promoting EDI

Excellent standard of verbal and written communication, with the ability to communicate well with a range of people at different levels

Ability to effectively plan and prioritise workload

Excellent administration and organisational skills

IT skills including excellent working knowledge of MS systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook
