The Star & Shadow Cinema is a DIY community cinema, music venue, bar and cafe built, programmed and managed by volunteers.

Every year in August the doors close for events so we can fix the broken bits and build the unfinished parts of the facility.

The Build Festival is a month long facilitated drop in session with food provided for all volunteers.

No experience is necessary for new volunteers to enjoy the workshopped tasks or benefit from the basic training offered to all who attend.

This year we are focussed on finishing the front of house area (the entrance/box office/foyer/cafe) and completing the toilet block (Changing Place fully accessible disabled toilet, winch, cradle and shower facility/gender neutral toilet/cleaning cupboard) plus some work developing our community garden.

This August the festival will run from the 10th to the 24th plus additional dates if necessary later.

The sessions are regularly scheduled for 10 am to 6 pm with some evening sessions also, but it is best to check the online programme for confirmation and updates.

The Cinema is located at 210 Warwick Street Shieldfield Newcastle NE21BB.,4007/
