Success4All's Steph

Hi there! My name is Steph, a third year Biomedical Sciences student, working as a Learning Hub Coordinator with the educational charity Success4All.

In my first year at Newcastle, I found out about volunteering with Success4All on the Go Volunteer page. For 6 hours a week, I supported young people with their school work.

My commitment to and passion for this charity’s work led to paid employment at the start of my second year. Since then, I have continued to tutor and organise online sessions supporting families from less-advantaged areas.

This journey has been invaluable. I have developed my communication and organisational skills as well as confidence through tutoring many subjects at different ability levels. It is without a doubt that this experience has also helped me in gaining a place on the Teach First Training Programme 2022.

Deciding to volunteer was the best thing I have done during my time at University. Seeing those ‘light-bulb’ moments and the difference you can make to a young person’s outlook and confidence is the most rewarding feeling.
