Watch your head is a student lead Go Volunteer programme aimed at providing a variety of stress relief workshops for all university students.
There are 5 different workshops including art, boxing, running, yoga and a peer support group. Each workshops is ran by university students to provide fun and relaxing activities to take your mind off exams or any form of stress.
All workshops are free and every ability is welcome.
Art Workshops: ‘Where art thou’
The art Workshops are held in the Hatton Gallery every Thursday 2-4 pm. Starting after the exam period. There will be different themes and stations every week, suitable for everyone. This is a simple activity to help relieve stress and no ability or expertise is needed. It is simply a time and place you can come and relax with other students who are feeling the stress of university as well, whilst engaging in arts and crafts.
The Boxing Workshops are ran by 4 students and offer a free hour boxing session every fortnight. Starting from Tuesday the 15th January until the 16th March, 3-4pm, at the Newcastle University Sports centre – MP Room A. What better way to relieve stress than by punching a boxing bag? All abilities are welcome. It is a fun and effective stress relief workshop as well as providing the opportunity to gain a new hobby. You never know unless you try!
Running Workshops: ‘RUN DMC’
A friendly running programme for those who wish to improve their running with others. Anyone is welcome, from those who have never ran before to those who are frequent runners but want to come and find others to talk to. Running is a great way to relieve stress, anxiety and talk about anything you wish, so come along to one of our sessions. It is ran by 4 students who will fully support you along the way. 2 sessions a week. Mondays and Wednesdays 6-7pm meeting outside Sainsbury’s next to West Jesmond Metro.
Yoga Workshops: 'Chit Happens'
We will have workshops on relaxation techniques, yoga for anxiety and relieving neck and should pains gained from studying. All classes are free and no booking required - just bring your student card to attend. Every friday at 6pm from 11th Jan - 22nd March. Soca-to-Me Studio, Uptin House, Stepney Road, Shieldfield, NE21TZ.
Each session will focus on a different theme to help you ease tension and manage your stress more efficiently. Peer support sessions offer a space for you to talk about any stresses you are facing, gain a greater insight into what causes your stress and learn hour to manage it more effectively. Each Session focuses on a different toppic related to wellbeing and you will be given handouts to takeaway. There's no need to sign up for a session, just turn up on the day. You don't have to in any of these sessions - we understand that you can benefit just as much from listening. All sessions run from 5-6 on a Thursday.
