March Council Round-up

March Council was a bit ‘thin on the ground’ in volume of motions but there was lots of debate and passion surrounding the motions proposed.

Daniel Wood, proposing the: “To Clarify the Role of Students with Disabilities Officer” motion, did so in such an impressive way that the motion passed with 100% Meaning that disabilities will have a clear definition in the same manner as defined within the LGBT+ and Student Parents, Guardians and Carers Officers, and will be detailed as such with the Students with Disabilities Officer role. Students with Disabilities Officer will be mandated to represent students which they are specifically there to represent in any manner possible, including through societies with similar key aims.

The motion  on ‘Changing the Freshers’ Week Organisers (FWOs) from an elected position to an appointed position’ passed. This will open up the role to all students who will apply and go through an interview process just like many other graduate jobs.

The  Motion “”Divesting from the arms trade” failed to get the 50% needed to pass. The banning of investment in BAE was thought to be a step too far for Newcastle students.

Only one council left for this academic year! Get in touch with any questions.
