Looking Living Leaving

Housing Image Spotlight on Housing

Living in Newcastle can be an amazing experience but renting does come with responsibilities.

Working with the Student Advice Centre (SAC) and Sara (NUSU Welfare and Equality Officer), NUSU Your Voice aim to support your decisions in housing and want to help you make informed choices when moving from Halls into private rented housing as well as help with the issues that crop up during your tenancy.

Year after year the SAC’s Housing Adviser helps students when things go wrong and we want to help you make the best decisions in order to stay out of the many pitfalls surrounding student housing. We plan to do this by making sure you get the correct information at the correct times. Look out for emails and social media posts on housing issues including When to Start Looking, Moving In, Inventories, Damp and Mould, How to get on with Flatmates and Landlord issues.

Moving in email.

We will also be hosting the NUSU Housing Fair, 11-4pm, 15 November

We know that pressure can come from local businesses who are keen for your commitment on a house next year but hold on!  To avoid some of the pitfalls students can find themselves in, we would advise that you and your potential housemates wait until January before looking for your next house. Start by checking the NUSU Housing Guide and then come along to the NUSU Housing Fair on the 15 November to get all of the information you need to make informed choices. At the fair you will have the opportunity to talk to local agents and ask questions to the advisory services who will be there.
