SafeZone App


What is the app?

SafeZone is a free new app for all students and staff that connects you directly to the university security team when you need help while you are on campus.

You can get urgent help if you or someone near you feels threatened or is the victim of an assault or robbery, and call for First Aid or Help in less urgent situations. When you raise an alarm or call for help, all on-campus security team members will be alerted to your situation and location so that they can co-ordinate to help you quickly and effectively.

The SafeZone service is specific to SafeZone Areas that have been defined by your campus security team. While you are within one of the defined areas, the campus security team will respond to your alarm or call.


What does it cover?


Need First Aid?

If you need medical assistance, tap the FIRST AID button. Campus Security will know your location and will direct a qualified First Aider to assist you.


Need help?

If you need assistance from Campus Security, tap the HELP button. You will be connected directly to speak to Security, and they will know your location.


Urgent Assistance?

If you feel threatened or need urgent assistance, tap the Emergency button. Campus Security will know your location, try to contact you and come to your location.

To register SafeZone on your phone download the free app and sign in.


You will need to register with the University first and use your University Email and log in to register.

Note that SafeZone only shares your location when you ask for help or check-in for working alone, it does not track you at other times, so your privacy is respected at all times. You can find out more about SafeZone’s features at

How to download:

Step One

If SafeZone is not already installed on your PC, please contact IT by clicking this link). You can search for SafeZone on the bottom toolbar of your screen.

Step Two

Open SafeZone from your Start menu

Step Three

Enter your e-mail address

Step Four

Enter your university username and password in the Login Gateway page that presents itself

Step Five

If you are a first-time user, scroll down and click Accept to the terms and conditions

Step Six

Provide registration details. Mobile phone number is required for Security staff to be able to contact you should you use the Emergency call function or fail to indicate that you are leaving work out of hours.

Step Seven

Click Go Back and re-enter your e-mail address into the login window, click Next

Step Eight

Click Choose Location

Step Nine

Use the drop down list to move the map to your location. Then click on the area of the building shown on the map to indicate your position. Then provide additional information in the Level and Room fields to provide Security with a more precise location.

Step Ten

Pick an Alarm Time for when you expect to be leaving work, then click Check In
