Safe Taxi Scheme.

NUSU Welfare & Support Centre.

We have collaborated with the Student Health and Wellbeing Service to provide students with a ‘Safe Taxi Scheme’.

If you are stranded with no money to get home but have your student card with you, you can use the service by calling Budget Taxis on 0191 298 5050 and quoting reference NEW02. You will be asked for your name and student number and will need to provide this before a taxi is booked, the driver will not need to keep your Smart Card. The safe taxi scheme can be accessed at any time and will cover the cost of up to an £8 fare. The Students’ Union will contact students who have accessed this service.

In an emergency situation when a taxi is not appropriate, please do the following:

Call the Police via 101 (non-emergency) or 999 (emergency).

For emergencies on campus, or if you are worried about your own safety or the safety of a fellow student:

Call University Security on 0191 208 6817 (24 hours a day, 7 days a week).
