Grow Volunteer NUSU’s very own on campus green project which encompasses all things urban growing a range of vegetables, herbs, flowers and trees. We meet regularly to do things such as creating growing spaces on campus and raising plants for use in schools and other green spaces. This project is great to get outside, take a break from studies, meet other people and broaden your knowledge of veggie growing and wider environmental issues.
Beginning Tuesday 5 Oct. Wednesday 6 Oct. and each week at these times until further notice
At 12noon and 2pm both days one-hour sessions.
Clothing: - wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and sensible shoes. All protective equipment such as gloves and eye protection provided. In the event of bad weather, we will do upcycling work indoors.
Main aims for autumn and winter are:
To create a small roof garden.
Clear spaces for herb planting
Prepare existing planters for vegetable growing
Sow over wintering vegetable seeds
One off events off campus: -
Fruit tree pruning, lifting raspberry canes
Planting tree seedlings, potting up and growing on young wildflower plants,
Building hedgehog houses nest boxes and bug hotels.
Dates and times for these to be arranged.
All students who interested in the environment, conservation and growing fresh produce.
Commitment varies, there will be several sessions a week during term and these are very easy to dip in and out of.
