GoodGym makes it easy to get fit by doing good. We do this in three ways: We pair runners with isolated older people - we call them 'coaches' as they motivate the runners to keep going - and the runners commit to make a weekly visit as part of their workout. www.goodgym.org/case_studies We employ qualified personal trainers who organise weekly group runs which are like running flash mobs for good. We run to community organisations and help them with tasks like clearing allotments or renovating classrooms.

    GoodGym makes it easy to get fit by doing good. The main way we do this is by running as a group to a community project, helping them out with a task for an hour (max) and then running back, simple! Coach Runner - Go for a run - Stop off for a chat with an older person in your neighbourhood - Run home Over a million older people in the UK are always or often lonely, some go for months without seeing friends or family. Visiting an older person as part of your weekly run can make a huge difference to their life. We call the older people we visit coaches because they help motivate us to run and they share their wisdom. It's amazing what you can learn from your coach. Coach runs can be fit around your schedule and don’t need to take up more than 20 minutes of your time per week. Volunteers commit to making a weekly social visit to a socially isolated older person in their area for 6 months. These visits can be planned to fit around the volunteer’s schedule Training requirements: Online training Online training call Mission Runner We run to help out older people with one-off practical tasks that they are no longer able to do on their own. Missions give us a reason to run different routes and make a big impact on someone's life too. For example, you could: - Run to change a lightbulb for an older person so that they can see in the dark - Run to do some gardening so that an older person can feel independent again - Run to move furniture so that an older person can get their home back in order Mission runs are very flexible- you can do one every week or every month-- it’s up to you and your schedule. Mission slots are available at the weekend. Simply sign up if you’re free and you will be paired with an older person who needs a hand. Training requirements: - Short online training module Group Runs GoodGym Newcastle meet every Monday evening at Hotel Indigo in the city centre. Each week, we meet to go for a run, stop off at a local community organisation to do some volunteering and then continue on with some fitness drills on our way back. Here’s your chance to combine getting fit with doing good and meet some great people along the way.
