Nationally nearly 5,000 people sleep rough every night. In Newcastle around 20 people sleep rough and across the north east rough sleeping has increased by 15% over the past year and has been increasing each year since 2010. However, this does the full extent of the problem as most homelessness is hidden with many people sofa-surfing and staying in hostels. Here in Newcastle Crisis has helped over 1,200 people in the past year. Over 300 have had their homelessness prevented and over 50 people have secured jobs. Many people who sleep rough have unmet support needs, both physical and mental, and over 90 have accessed our mental health services to support their wellbeing. We currently have some great opportunities for volunteers to join our team together help us end homelessness. We are looking for driven, reliable and enthusiastic volunteers who are able to communication with people from a range of different backgrounds. Register your interest and we will provide you with a link to our current opportunities and a named contact at CRISIS who can help to answer any questions you may have.
