Alzheimer’s Society is a charity that supports people living with a diagnosis of dementia. Our 3,000 services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland offer information, care and support to people with dementia, their families, friends and carers. These include Dementia Cafés, Singing for the Brain® sessions, and Dementia Advisers, Dementia Support Workers and Side by Side volunteers who support people to keep doing the things they enjoy.

    Our vision is a world without dementia. Our mission is to transform the landscape of dementia forever. Until the day we find a cure, we will strive to create a society where those affected by dementia are supported and accepted, able to live in their community without fear or prejudice. Current Volunteering Roles Fundraising group volunteers (Newcastle, Gateshead, North Shields South Shields, Sunderland and Northumberland) – help organise and deliver fundraising events and activities. Side by Side Volunteer (Northumberland, Newcastle and Gateshead, County Durham) – Supporting people living with dementia to do the things they love doing. 16+ Singing for the Brain (Northumberland) – participating in singing with people with dementia and providing refreshments. 16+ Games for the Brain (Newcastle) – participating in indoor physical activity with people with dementia and providing refreshments. 16+ Community Link Volunteer (North East various locations) – building relationships with local community groups to link to the Alzheimer’s Society 18+ Telephone Support Volunteer (Northumberland and Newcastle) – You will help people living with dementia feel connected and supported. 18+ Dementia Cafe (Newcastle) – This role involves encouraging people with dementia and carers to participate in Dementia Cafe activities. 16+
