Governance and Officers
Documents and Resources
You can’t miss us here at the Students’ Union: we’re that huge red brick building with glass doors and the King’s Walk. We want to make sure you have the best University experience, both inside and out of the classroom.
Here at NUSU we always try to be the answer for students’ questions. Feeling hungry? We have a range of food outlets including Dominoes and Subway. Or why not try our vibrant student bar Luther’s? Our shop sells everything from snacks to Newcastle University silverware, and our in-house printing company Splosh is the place to go for all your printing and binding needs. Check out Venue, our dedicated events space under the Students’ Union hosting a huge range of events for you the students.
Ran for students, by the students NUSU cares about student issues. As well as our hard work to put on events and keeping you fed, we also care about making a meaningful difference to the student experience. Our huge network of school and course reps are here to feedback on your course as well as our campaigns to help ease University-wide issues like the cost of living for students. Alongside our rep system, we also have a number of Part-time Officers and Sabbatical Officers (Sabb officers) that take on more formal representational responsibilities, like attending meetings on your behalf.
There are loads of opportunities to get involved in societies and sport at Newcastle University. With over 200 societies and 60 clubs the Students’ Union is here to make sure you have a great time outside of your lectures.
We also encourage students to make the most of the opportunities to write and get involved in our award winning student media teams such as the Courier Newspaper, Newcastle Student Radio and NUTV.
As well as getting you involved NUSU is a proactively supportive place. The Student Advice Centre (SAC) are here to give you independent advice on any issues ranging from finance to academic appeals, health or personal wellbeing.
To put it simply, NUSU do it all to make sure you have the amazing experience that you deserve.
Our aims at NUSU are to be democratic, inclusive, effective, progressive, sustainable, socially responsible and fun. And if you ask us, we most certainly are! Here at NUSU we help to support the things that mater to you. Have an idea for a campaign? No matter how trivial you think it is, come and see us because, chances are, it’ll be something we really want to promote too.
NUSU really does have to be seen to be believed. Our doors are always open to our students, their friends, family and parents to come and see everything have to offer. Here at NUSU we run a whole host of campaigns and events to get our students thinking and involved. We even host some of the most anticipated events in the academic calendar including the epic Freshers’ Welcome Week, Athletic Union (Sports) Ball, Teaching Excellence Awards, Graduation Ball and Student Media Awards.
As well as participating in events, you’ll even have the opportunity to run for the position of one of our Officers. That’s right, you could be running the Students’ Union. And if gaining experience doesn’t quite peak your interest, how does getting paid for it sound? Not too bad right! There really is so much to do here at NUSU and we’d love for you to get involved!
With thousands of you getting involved every year with the work of the NUSU we love to celebrate your achievements and everything you do for the University, City and wider society. That’s why every May we have our Celebrating Success week, a whole week dedicated to you and your contributions to a range of different areas of work at NUSU.
These awards ceremonies are as follows:
• Community Impact Awards
• Student Rep Awards

But first we need you to nominate yourself, a friend, a participant; anyone! We want to hear about the amazing work you are doing, so fill out our quick nomination form and tell your university how you’ve contributed.
