How to get involved
We encourage all students to get involved with improving academic issues - whether that is through giving feedback to Reps, or becoming a Rep themselves to represent students within their course or School. If you would like to become a Rep, check out what opportunities we have available below:
The second round of School Rep applications are currently closed.
The selection of Course Reps takes place within your School and Institute. All students should have the opportunity to nominate themselves to become a Course Rep and, as such, available positions should be advertised widely within your School at the start of the year. Make sure to keep an eye out for emails or other communications about these positions.
If you are interested in becoming a Course Rep for your programme of study or research but have not heard anything and are unsure who to contact about getting involved, let us know.
Student Chairs & Secretaries
For undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate research programmes (PGR), the position of Student Chair and Secretary should already have been elected by the student members of the Student-Staff Committee (SSC) in the final SSC of the previous academic year. With this in mind, if you are a UG or PGR student with more than one year left of your studies, you will first need to serve time as a Course Rep before you can nominate yourself as a candidate for Chair or Secretary for the following academic year.
For SSCs that cover one-year programmes only (i.e. postgraduate taught programmes), the Student Chair should, ideally, be selected in advance of the first meeting of the year in the same manner as Course Reps or elected by Reps at the first SSC of the year.
EDI Reps & Environment & Sustainability Reps
EDI Reps and Environment & Sustainability Reps are usually Course Reps elected to these additional positions by the student members of their SSC. If you are interested in being an EDI Rep or E&S Rep, then, you should first become a Course Rep and then nominate yourself to become EDI Rep/E&S Rep at the SSC meeting.
