Key order paper items explained
i) The Questions & Mandates Section will include questions to the Full-time Officers at each meeting and questions to the Part-time Officers at the last meeting of each term. Officers will provide updates from mandates from Council. You can keep up to date with how your Officers are getting on the Council Reports page.
o) During Student Notices, any student may present a notice to Student Council. If they are not present at the meeting they can submit a notice to Council prior to the meeting.
p) The Open Debate is the final agenda item and quite often the most interactive. Open debate topics have ranged from ‘What would you tell your Fresher self’ to ‘Should we have different fees for different degrees?’. All Newcastle students are welcome and encouraged to submit ideas for the open debate topic and can then present it at the meeting. A great opportunity if you are looking for ways to improve your public speaking skills! Anyone attending the Council meeting (voting member or not) can get involved by raising their hand when they have something to input to the debate.
If you would like to submit a topic for the idea for the open debate, please complete the open debate form.
