Kate Bennetto was elected into the voluntary Disability Officer role by students at the Student Elections in March 2020. Kate will be succeeded in June 2021 by Amelia Simm.
About the Role
The Disability Officer represents all Newcastle University students who identify as having a Disability (i.e a physical disability, a psychological disability, a learning difficulty, mental illness, or other health condition which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to study). You will also coordinate the Students with Disabilities forum and run campaigns, events, marketing and any other activity necessary to address related issues raised by the students you are representing.
About Me & My Aims
My aims are to hopefully be able to hold an event to raise both awareness and body positivity to really capture the true beauty and ability of members of my community. I understand the pandemic may hinder things but I'd love to do something sporting in honor of the upcoming 2021 Paralympics. In addition to these, I'd like to work closely with the president of the Disability and Neurodiversity Society to create more literature educating people on the truth about living with different conditions.
