Georgia Corbett

Disability Officer

About me

My role as Disability Officer, is to support, represent and raise awareness of the disabled community on campus. Working within the union to do awareness events, as well as with the institution and individual schools to ensure improvements to the accessibility of the university. More than anything, to represent and listen to the disabled students on campus.

I have been studying at Newcastle University for the past three years, going into my fourth. Throughout, I have been on the LGBT+, It Happens Here and Disability and Neurodiversity societies committees, I am truly passionate about student activism and working to help and support others. I used to feel ashamed of my disability, and I want to work to help others not to feel that way.

My objectives

  • To support Disabled students on campus and act as a middle ground and supportive presence wherever I can.
  • Work closely with the institution and Students Union to provide awareness events – reaching out to all members of the disabled community – visible and invisible.
  • Work closely with academic schools where necessary to ensure improved support for Disabled students
  • Continue to improve on campus accessibility.
