The Role

The Disability Officer represents all Newcastle University students who identify as having a Disability (i.e a physical disability, a psychological disability, a learning difficulty, mental illness, or other health condition which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to study). You will also coordinate the Students with Disabilities forum and run campaigns, events, marketing and any other activity necessary to address related issues raised by the students you are representing.

About Me

Hello everyone! I'm Amelia and my pronouns are she/her and I will be your Disability officer for the academic year of 2021/22. I study Politics and International relations and over the past year I have worked as an EDI rep for GPS & will be going into my second year in September. I've gone through a long educational journey doing an extra year of college & university last year but I'm so glad it has resulted in me being here! I'm very excited to work in collaboration with all the other NUSU officers to make education more accessible.


  • Highlight accessibility issues for students with invisible disabilities
  • Ensure accessibility tools such a closed captioning are being implemented properly
  • Liaise with societies to make sure their committees are aware of accessibility and inculsivity
  • Review university policies which may put disabled students at a disadvantage
  • I will be hosting talks to students, peers and university staff on the importance of mental health
  • Streamline support for students who desperately need it
  • Work with the sabbatical team on issues to create motions
  • Be someone those who are struggling feel like they can contact and something will be put in place
